Expert  elocutionist and Professor of Marathi Late Prof. Ramkrishna More was a member of  faculty of this Department. He went on to become the President of PDEA as well as the Minister for Cultural Affairs of Maharashtra State. Prof. D. B. Gadhave was also a Professor in the Department. Presently he holds the post of Deputy Secretary of PDEA. The P.G. department of Marathi was established in 1992.

Three students have so far been awarded with Gold Medals by the University of Pune. They are 1. Hari Narake-Great Thinker 2. Sharada Pawar 3. Uma Kale. Mr/. Hari Narake has been appointed as Director to Mahatma Phule Research Centre. Eight ex-students of our PG Department have passed NET/SET examination and have been working as Lecturers in Marathi at different Colleges. 25 ex-students have passed B.Ed. and have been working as teachers at Secondary and Higher Secondary levels. 2 ex-students of our Department  have been working as journalists for Daily Sakal & Prabhat. Several students have occupied respectable positions in various other fields such as Web Designing, Animation, Kirtan(religious preaching) Social Work etc.

Goal & Purpose
          Personality Development and Fitness to face the fast changing nature of life is the goal of the Department. Most of our students are from rural area. They are informed and guided about Marathi Language and Literature. We try our best to develop them intellectually and emotionally. Several activities are conducted throughout the year for the same purpose. Literary Association, Wall Magazine, Debate, Poetry Exhibition, Recitation, Narration, Reading of Master pieces are some of them Workshop on application of Marathi for Media Competitive Examination Guidance, Visits to literary Gatherings are arranged every year. “Abhiruchi Women Readers Forum” run by the teachers of the Department works in the interest of the local Community.
